'THREADS' Opening Reception

In partnership with Artes de la Rosa, Art Tooth is excited to present “Threads”, a group exhibition, opening Fall Gallery Night and continuing to be on display until October 4, 2019.  “Threads” explores the literal and figurative meaning of the term with pieces that utilize fabric or representation of fabric. The exhibition also references “threads” as a connection between people. We invite viewers to recognize the many connections they are making when entering the gallery. Whether it’s a personal connection to a piece, artist to viewer, reminders of family figures in the piece, the friends and family you attend the exhibit with, or the friends you meet at the exhibit art sets in motion a plethora of connections that weave the creation of a community.

Featured Artists: Sara Cardona, Krista Chalkley, Celia Cortez, Samantha Page Cooper, Michelle Cortez Gonzalez, Aubrey Pittman-Heglund, Clayton Hurt

'Object Permanence' Opening Reception

Art Tooth is proud to present Object Permanence; a group exhibition featuring work by Sierra Forester, Shelby Orr, Audrey Travis, and Amy Young. The show consists of photography, sculpture, mixed media, and paintings. The exhibition is curated by Art Tooth staff (Aimee Cardoso, Shasta Haubrich, and Ariel Davis), as part of the Fort Worth Community Art Center Art Collective Residency Program. Object Permanence explores the understanding that objects continue to exist even when they cannot be perceived. Our natural instinct as a viewer of art is to try to figure out “what it is” or sometimes try to “get” what the piece is about. The variety of works, from a light pole covered in nails to partially obscured photo assemblages reference objects that are no longer visible but the viewer still understands.

Object Permanence will be on display in Gallery 9 at the Fort Worth Community Art Center from August 2-22, 2019, with an opening reception on Friday August 2, 2019 6-9pm.

About Sierra Forester:

“I work as an observer, a questioner, as an individual attempting to understand. Through autonomic gestures it is my aim to grasp and visualize our existence as well as the constructs that we build around us; however lofty that may be. Specifically, the social frameworks we use to navigate our relationship with the world as well as our perception of time are frequent studies in my practice. Minimal in form, the work

remains open-ended and porous with hopes of allowing a multitude of perceptions - amongst my own - to be drawn from the work.”

About Shelby Orr:

Shelby Orr is an artist and educator based in Fort Worth, Texas. Her work concentrates on the perception of self using photography, drawing, and sound. She has shown at the Masur Museum of Art, Houston Center for Photography, Spiva Center for the Arts, and, as a finalist for the Julia Margaret Cameron Award, was included in the 2016 Berlin Foto Biennale. In 2016, she completed a residency at CentralTrak: The UT Dallas Artist Residency. Along with her visual works, Orr writes and performs sound compositions and is one half of the creative collaboration KITBASHES.

About Audrey Travis:

Audrey Travis holds an MFA in sculpture from Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, TX) and a BFA in painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design (Savannah, GA). She was most recently awarded the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund grant from the Dallas Museum of Art, following her residency at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin, Germany. Her current work explores monumentality through material, scale, and space. Travis lives and works in Dallas/Fort Worth where she is an Adjunct Professor of Art at Texas Christian University.

“I am drawn to the monolithic. I look to monuments of pure form and material, masses of stone, and moments of architecture. These hewn shapes evoke a sense of permanence and embody the elemental. I am interested in incorporating this language into my work, using simple acts and interventions to emulate the purity and gravity of these structures. These sculptures are meant to challenge the grandiose and monumental through material and scale.” -Audrey Travis

About Amy Young:

Amy Young is a self-taught, abstract expressionist artist known for her exploration of time, impermanence, and natural weathering. Graffiti and character-rich walls are her greatest sources of inspiration. She lives and works in fort worth, Texas.
