80 Proof Doo Wop Redo | Honoring Jeremy Joel

Art Tooth is excited to announce a special art exhibit in honor of our friend and co-founder Jeremy Joel.

Initially set to take place on March 27, 2020 at Shipping & Receiving, “80 Proof Doo Wop” was an art exhibition curated and in planning by celebrated Fort Worth artist Jeremy Joel. Unfortunately, pandemic related closures forced the cancellation of the exhibition before opening. As many know, events never aligned for Jeremy’s show to take place.

To celebrate him and the show that never came to be, Art Tooth in partnership with The Pool Near Southside, has invited the original participating artists curated by Joel to show their work in the exhibition “80 Proof Doo Wop Redo.

Ten artists will have work available for purchase. In addition, selected pieces by Jeremy Joel from the personal collection of the late artist’s friends will be on view. Exhibition posters and prints will also be available for sale.

Join us for the opening reception on November 5 from 6 pm to 9 pm. Following the reception, Art Tooth will offer regular gallery hours Thursday through Saturday from 12 to 6 until the show closes on December 3.

Participating artists include:

AHK
Billy Bishop
Imaginarium Delirium
Jonathan Levy
Juice
Q the Filmer
Raul Rodriguez
Rose Reyes
Roy Rivera
Viktor Villanueva

We hope you will join us in celebrating Jeremy, the art community he helped foster, and his lasting impact on Fort Worth’s cultural voice.

Big thanks to Jeremy’s family and Jonathan of Nameless Marketing for giving us permission to organize this event.

Art Tooth Artists in Business Grant

Art Tooth Artists in Business Grant

Art Tooth is excited to welcome applications for the Art Tooth Artists in Business grant. Art Tooth will award three local artists $4,000 for art materials and a stipend to create new work for three Fort Worth businesses: Carpenter's Cafe & Catering, Casa Azul, and Pizza Verde.

Artist grantees will work with Art Tooth and local business owners to envision the size and scope of the artwork/artworks for each establishment. Additionally, they will be required to mentor and receive studio assistance from three college-level artists for a minimum of five hours in support of each installation.

All submissions will be subject to a community-supported panel review. The panel will include artists Molly Margaret Sydnor, Dr. Mary Mbongo Nangah, Art Tooth, and then owners of three businesses.

The Artists in Business grant aims to foster the continued growth of Fort Worth's burgeoning art community. In addition to awarding local artists the funds needed to create and display new work, artist grantees will have the chance to build relationships with business owners and patrons beyond the reach of traditional arts venues. They will also have the opportunity to mentor Fort Worth's next generation of up-and-coming artists, another crucial element in ensuring the continued growth of the city's thriving creative community.

Funding for this grant is available thanks to the Donny Wiley Memorial Fund at North Texas Community Foundation,

Art Tooth especially welcomes submissions from underrepresented communities in Fort Worth, including Black, Latine/x, Indigenous, AAPI, and LGBTQIA+ artists.

Visit the opportunities page at www.arttooth.com or the event link on this page for full details. Please email shasta@arttooth.com if you have any questions or need help applying.

life IN color

Color can be defined as a phenomenon of light... which is defined through the sensation and stimulation of what is to the individuals of adulthood and maturity. But for the students of this generation... they have truly seen life in color. Living through elections, hatred, social movements, climate changes and a global pandemic.

For these students... this is their "life IN COLOR"

Meet us for a drink at Morgan Mercantile and then visit the piece installed in the Soma District as part of Art Tooth's partnership with Near Southside and Art South.

Big thanks to Muse. Studios and Venue for providing studio space for the artist!

Artist Statement:
In my work, I explore themes of human suffering, violence, abuse of power, politics, control, and hypocrisy. These topics are all part of a larger social commentary regarding the disposable way human life is treated. Around the world, individuals are seen and treated as disposable, expendable, or undesirable, especially in times of social unrest. I describe this disregard for human lives by overlaying concepts regarding the perceived worth of "the others" with metaphors related to vermin, a common analogy used throughout history to strip others of their humanity. In addition to this metaphorical association, insects and entomology also inspire elements of anonymity, plurality, scale, presentation, and identification. With the somber content of my work, I intend to pay tribute to the victims, bring awareness to their suffering and the issues affecting them.

Stephen Wettermark Stalactites at #ArtSouth

Stephen Wettermark Stalactites at #ArtSouth

  • 125 S Main Street Fort Worth, Texas (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Art Tooth is excited to announce our newest exhibition in the #ArtSouth Container at the SoMa District Fort Worth Micro park. Artist Stephen Wettermark’s anamorphic installation, “Stalactites” will be on view to the public from December 21 through February 28.

The piece will be comprised of several dozen rolls of white bond paper suspended from the ceiling of the #ArtSouth container, painted with bright colors to reveal different anamorphic shapes that will only be visible from viewers at specific vantage points. Described as an indoor forest, “Stalactites” is designed to invoke the excitement and intrigue of a trip to the science museum, the discovery of new information, and the exploration of new ideas.

Architect and artist Stephen Wettermark says that he was inspired to pursue this work after seeing an artist talk at the Ann Arbor science museum by street chalk artist David Zinn who brings life to pareidolic, anamorphic creations. The idea for “Stalactites” was further inspired by Stephen’s observations of the way humans use their phones--hunched over, looking downward to browse the web or read a text. This installation will require viewers to shift their viewpoint, to look up, and to move throughout the open-space to catch certain images they may not have seen before.

We invite you to visit the SoMa District Fort Worth Micro park any time beginning December 21 to experience this architecturally impactful installation. The ArtSouth container is open to the public, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Synthetic Aesthetic - Mariell Guzman & Tyler Germaine

Art Tooth is excited to announce our newest exhibition in the #ArtSouth Container at the SoMa District Fort Worth Micro park. Artists Mariell Guzman and Tyler Germaine's installation "Synthetic Aesthetic" will be open to the public on September 25 and stay on display until November 25.

As urbanization and expansion continues to dominate our world, this indoor jungle speaks to the hypocrisy of our attempt to beautify man-made concrete developments with aesthetics derived from nature, while destroying mass amounts of nature’s lifelines in their wake.

Inspired by her travels to ancient Mayan territories, artists Mariell Guzman and Tyler Germaine's “Synthetic Aesthetic” will be placed in the #ArtSouth container in the middle of the city, sealed off from interaction as a way to reorient our perception of our environment by contrasting man’s fascination with nature as an aesthetic element, instead of appreciating it for its vitality and resources.

We invite you to visit the SoMa District Fort Worth Micro park any time beginning September 25 to experience this visual and auditory installation, while reflecting on the ever-changing landscape of our world.

Due to social distancing concerns, we will not be holding a reception at this time. We invite you to visit the SoMa District Fort Worth Micro park any time beginning June 11 to see this fascinating exhibit.
