About the Artist

The Fort Worth based artist received a BFA in studio art from the University of Texas at Austin in 1971. Carol Ivey has taught numerous workshops and classes and has served as juror on exhibitions across north Texas. In 2013 and 2009 Ivey was a finalist in the Hunting Art Prize in Houston. Ivey has won awards for her submissions in Preservation is the Art of the City in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012. Her work is included in the collections of Baylor All Saints Medical Center, Fort Worth; Diabetes and Thyroid Center of Fort Worth; Fidelity Investments, Boston; Frito-Lay, Inc, Dallas; and Texas Instruments, Dallas. Ivey is currently represented by Artspace111 in Fort Worth, Texas and by The Hunt Gallery in San Antonio, Texas Selected Press

"Ivey’s still lifes and abstract images have been shown across the state (she’s twice been a finalist for the Hunting Art Prize, Texas artists’ largest prize), and the works in In a Good Light combine elements of both naturalism and abstraction. For instance, she can paint a bright reflection of window light on a dish’s surface with photorealist precision and accuracy. But a pomegranate sitting in that same dish is rendered as a graphically abstract oval of color pools. That expressive combination –– a signature of Ivey’s work –– is a form of abstract realism. The friction of those two elements gives many of her pictures a slightly off-kilter, even surrealistic twist." - The Fort Worth Weekly
